DANCE STYLES

ACRODANCE

AcroDance is a style of Dance that beautifully fuses classical dance techniques with the athleticism of acrobatic elements.  It is often defined by its unique choreography and its athletic character. AcroDance seamlessly blends musicality, performance, lines and extensions with acrobatic movements in a dance context.  Acro is a very challenging dance style to master, as it is vital to train in both dance and acrobatics.   Acro demonstrates slow controlled movements using flexibility in the back, legs and shoulders as well as difficult feats of balance, agility and coordination.

Classes will focus on safe and effective progressions in five divisions of AcroDance:

  • Flexibilty
  • Strength
  • Balance
  • Limbering
  • Tumbling

Emphasis will be placed on developing fundamental acrobatic skills such as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all at each student’s individual level of experience.

TUMBLING

Tumbling is a form of acrobatic activity that involves flips, jumps, rolls, somersaults, aerials and handsprings.

In these classes, the students will learn basic tumbling that can be added into their dance routines to produce more dynamic dances.

Some of these skills include:

  • Handsprings
  • Front and Side Aerials (walkover and cartwheel without hands)
  • Back handspring

Tumbling tricks will advance at each student’s individual ability.
